Jumping is one of the most annoying behaviors that a dog can display. Whether your dog is 2 pounds or 200 pounds, it is just bad manners! The following are some rules to stop jumping behaviors for good.
NOBODY can encourage the jumping. If even one person reinforces this behavior, you will have a tough time fully extinguishing it.
Keep in mind that even negative reinforcement is STILL reinforcement. If you squeal or yell when your dog jumps on you, he/she thinks you are having fun or, at least, giving some attention to the behavior.
When your dog jumps take a step towards them (take their space) ,
Turn your back and walk away. You are teaching your dog that you are so far above him or her that you will not even acknowledge them when they are acting so rudely!
Once your dog figures out that nobody will give them the attention they want while jumping begin asking him/her to sit for greetings. Soon you will have a dog that runs up to people and sits to say hello!
