Rhinopneumonitis, is a
virus that can cause respiratory
disease, neurologic disease or
abortion.
Outbreaks in Ohio and Iowa,
horses showed neurologic signs
The Rhino vaccine is included
in the spring vaccines, and is also
given in the "Fall boosters".
It is not 100% effective, however vaccination
can reduce the spread of the disease.
The best effectiveness for this vaccine is
the first 3 months after it is given. It is more effective against
the respiratory and abortion forms than the neurologic form. CVVS
strongly recommends that any horse that is boarded or travels to
shows/events be vaccinated every 3 months against Rhino.
