There are several over the counter items that can be helpful for emergency situations.
Hydrogen peroxide is good for cleaning wounds, as well as, inducing vomiting when an animal has ingested an inappropriate item. One can use cornstarch or flour to help stop a bleeding toenail that was clipped too short.
Benadryl® (diphenhydramine) is another useful product used for antihistamine relief for minor insect bites or itchiness. It is available in pill form or liquid for smaller animals and make sure that diphenhydramine is the only active ingredient.
Buffered aspirin can be used for pain relief but remember, Tylenol® (acetaminophen) will kill cats. Ibuprofen is not recommended for animals.
Always consult a veterinarian prior to giving any medications. We have 24 hour service so please call us.
